McPherson says he won't step down after ed board OKs resolution calling for his resigna

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joe Dejka

LINCOLN — Pat McPherson said this morning that he will not resign his seat on the State Board of Education.

His statement came before the full board approved, on a 6-2 vote, a resolution calling on him to step down because of bigoted statements that were on a blog run by McPherson. Glen Flint and McPherson were the two votes against the resolution.

The blog has since been shut down. McPherson has said he did not write the posts, which called President Barack Obama a “half-breed. ” He has refused to say who did.

The posts ignited a firestorm, prompting Gov. Pete Ricketts and several prominent Republicans to call for McPherson to step down.

It's not the fact that he's old that's the problem, it's the fact that he's a bigot and is mean spirited. I do agree he should go away.

but still think being old isn't the problem. I'm old and sane and would never even think of doing anything remotely comparable. One of my co-workers is young, in her early 40's, and is a racist and homophobe, so being young doesn't mean correct thinking and being old doesn't mean incorrect thinking automatically. Just my old person's take on this.
