Roberta Bertie Buffett Elliott, younger sister of Omaha billionaire Warren Buffett, pledged a $100 million donation to Northwestern University, the largest gift in the Evanston, Illinois, universitys history.
Elliott, a 1954 Northwestern graduate, has donated about $10 million to the school in the past, mostly in support of international studies. Her wealth comes from shares of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the Omaha-based company headed by her brother.
The new contribution will create the Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Studies aimed at a multidisciplinary approach to solving global problems.
Northwestern announced the contribution as part of a $3.75 billion fundraising campaign.

(509 posts)As an alum, I can't help but feel a perverse sense of pride. As a first gen student w/no money (worked three jobs at same time while there) that degree has opened doors for me on multiple occasions.
At the same time, I hope they are more generous with financial aide through this campaign and it's not just buildings with rich people's names.
