members of the right complained to the network. The official reply was that Colbert is "a moderate."

So, I don't know. He may wait until the show has found its rating footing and his audience before he does anything that will rattle any cages on the right. Or not. We'll soon see.

became about left and right of politics. And Jay Leno was still in place on NBC as a counter. Neither of them drove their political POV home every night, as did Colbert.

Also, I have heard Letterman express frustration about both parties, especially as to the environment, so maybe that made him seem like an equal opportunity critic?
