Jindal to Meet With Henry Jackson Society on his Eurpoean Trip

Jindal heads to Europe for economic development trip
http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/01/jindal_europe_economic_trip.html#incart_related_stories

Gov. Bobby Jindal will travel to Europe this weekend for a 10-day economic development mission, a trip that also could bolster the Republican's international relations credentials as he considers a possible presidential campaign.

The governor's office, which was announcing the plans Thursday, said the primary focus of the visit to Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland is to pitch Louisiana as an attractive place to do business, seeking new foreign investment for the state

(snip)He said the trip "represents a great opportunity to share Louisiana's story and establish relationships with companies around the world."

(snip)But Jindal also intends to fit in a foreign policy address while overseas, to the conservative Henry Jackson Society, a London-based think tank. And the governor's office said Jindal "will meet with a number of political leaders in the United Kingdom."

(snip) as he lays the groundwork for a potential 2016 White House bid. The Europe visit could be used to try to squelch concerns that as a state leader Jindal lacks the foreign policy experience needed to be president.

Other possible GOP candidates also have been increasing their overseas travel and working to improve their knowledge of international issues. For example, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been cramming in phone calls with foreign policy experts.

Who Is The Henry Jackson Society?

http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/Henry_Jackson_Society

The Henry Jackson Society (HJS) is a UK-based advocacy organization that serves as a bastion of trans-Atlantic neoconservatism. Established in 2005, the group's "statement of principles" promotes a "forward strategy" aimed at assisting democratization across the globe, ensuring the maintenance of strong militaries in the United States and the European Union, and giving "two cheers to capitalism." Citing a commitment to "fundamental values," the statement also cautions that alliances with "repressive regimes" should only be temporary.

(snip)"No longer is [HJS] a centrist, bipartisan think-tank seeking to promote democratic geopolitics through providing sober, objective and informed analysis to policy-makers," wrote founding member Marko Attila Hoare after resigning from the group in 2012. "Instead, it has become an abrasively right-wing forum with an anti-Muslim tinge, churning out polemical and superficial pieces by aspiring journalists and pundits that pander to a narrow readership of extreme Europhobic British Tories, hardline US Republicans

(snip)Founding members included John Bolton and George Weigel, both longstanding neoconservative figures, as well José María Aznar, the former conservative prime minister of Spain. Also among the ranks of FII's membership were Fiamma Nirenstein, a member of the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlesconi's coalition; Alejandro Toledo, former president of Peru; and David Trimble, former leader of Northern Ireland's conservative Ulster Unionist Party and an HSJ founding signatory. -

This is a very interesting read. Eye opening and though not surprised that Jindal would align with the Henry Jackson Society, I believe he may indeed be looking for that absen Foreign Policy Experience he may need for a 2016 campaign, I am also bothered by finding out just who else is aligned with this HJS. That the neoconservative agenda for American Govt has become so globally organized.
Yes, its a bit lengthy a read, but finding out that HJS, which began as a bipartisan group evolved into a neoconservative think-tank tells me how far their reach is.
Jindal's association with such a group is for a couple of stated reasons, however I question what enterprising deals will return to the US with.
And who are Henry Jackson Society's secret donors? btw

Enlightening Read.
Thanks

I was kind of surprised that there was only one well wisher & he ended his kind words with a middle finger.
Most wanted him to stay away.

Perhaps your beautiful historic State can change things in the next Gov election.
Being from Texas, I feel your pain.

and that was "way back when." But he, at least, had a few things going for him. His contemporary followers have none.

From Wiki:

The political philosophies and positions of Jackson, a Cold War anti-Communist Democrat, have been cited as an influence on a number of key figures associated with neoconservatism, including Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle.[1] The Henry Jackson Society is named in his honor.

Also:

Jackson believed that evil should be confronted with power.[20] His support for civil rights and equality at home,[13] married to his opposition to détente,[20] his support for human rights[22] and democratic allies,[23] and his firm belief that the United States could be a force for good in the world[24] inspired a legion of loyal aides who went on to propound Jackson's philosophy as part of neoconservatism. In addition to Richard Perle, neoconservatives Paul Wolfowitz, Elliott Abrams, Charles Horner, and Douglas Feith were former Democratic aides to Jackson who, disillusioned with the Carter administration, supported Ronald Reagan and joined his administration in 1981, later becoming prominent foreign policy makers in the 21st-century Bush administration. Neoconservative Ben Wattenberg was a prominent political aide to Jackson's 1972 and 1976 presidential campaigns. Wolfowitz has called himself a "Scoop Jackson Republican" on multiple occasions.[22][25] Many journalists and scholars across the political spectrum have noted links between Senator Jackson and modern neoconservatism.[1][20][23][26][27][28][29][30][31][32]

Jackson's influence on foreign policy has been cited as foundational to the George W. Bush administration's foreign policy, and the Iraq War.[33] Jackson biographer Robert Kaufman says "There is no question in my mind that the people who supported Iraq are supporting Henry Jackson's instincts."[20]

I used to admire him. But, beginning from his slavish devotion and adherence's to W's warmongering policies, I began to loathe the man and always will. No matter what his political label.
