... legislation to address the so-called “Charleston loophole” that allowed admitted Emanuel AME shooter Dylann Roof to purchase the weapon that killed nine people never got a Statehouse hearing on its merits.

The Charleston loophole is tied to Roof’s ability to buy the .45-caliber Glock 41 used in the Emanuel shooting when he should not have been allowed to purchase it. Before he took the pistol home from a gun shop, he was required to submit to an FBI background check.
