Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman broke his media dry spell Wednesday with a press briefing on a new diplomatic-military plan for the West Bank. Basically, Lieberman seeks to distinguish between good Palestinians and bad.
Villages from which terrorists set out to commit attacks will be severely punished. Villages and areas where quiet is maintained will enjoy extensive economic benefits and be able to pursue infrastructure projects.
The defense minister also announced that he would seek alternative contacts with Palestinians. Under his guidance, defense officials will talk to other people in the Palestinian Authority, not just those linked to aging President Mahmoud Abbas.
The carrot-and-stick method and the alternative channels sounded like a return to the 1970s and 80s, when a military administration governed the territories. The chances that Liebermans new ideas will be successful are questionable, and it would be interesting to know what the people at Central Command and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories think.

(3,967 posts)Lieberman says of the proposed measures
We will implement a differential policy in Judea and Samaria, Its purpose is to continue to give benefits to those who desire co-existence with us and make life difficult for those who seek to harm Jews. Anyone who is prepared for co-existence will prosper, while those who opt for terrorism will lose.
This is the exact opposite of the PA and Hamas policies, and Hezbollah.

(42,649 posts)is being willing to live in a small number of isolated, disconnected bantustans that are literally walled in and where all resources are controlled by the Israeli Government.
Or they can live in the open air prison that is Gaza. The ultimate irony is that Gaza is a waterfront area with no access to water.
A Palestinian State that will continue to shrink as Israel continues to steal land.
Truly ironic and a perversion of language.
