And you don't need 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate, that problem can be bypassed
at any time, just like Harry Reid did.

(779 posts)The authors do not take into account that during Republican presidencies, the thought of increased costs or inflating the budget deficit is never a factor in the decisions a Congress of the same party makes. Eliminate the individual mandate? Eliminate the taxes? So what. Wasn't it Dick Cheney who said "Screw it, Reagan proved deficits don't matter?"
And the Republican Congress will have no trouble doing away with the filibuster or using the budget reconciliation process to send through legislation. They'll always be able to count on Joe Manchin to cross the aisle if any of the moderate Republicans left in the Senate blanche at doing away with the filibuster.
