Since Kristina Krump and her husband, Nicholas, started dating, they’ve dreamed about leaving Phoenix to live abroad, maybe after sending their last child to college, or in retirement. In the meantime, they and their three boys spend a month every summer in Latin America.

Last year, the family went to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It was a welcome break, Kristina Krump said, from US politics and bad news.

“We didn’t worry about CNN,” Krump said. “We didn’t worry about terrorist attacks. We didn’t worry about mass acts of violence. And we didn’t feel the need to check in on any of that because we were in the moment, in life, and there, everything was good.”

Back home in the US, Krump, a former teacher, worries about the divisiveness the election has stirred up. In Arizona, politics are focused more on the Mexican border and illegal immigration, and less on the black-white divide she grew up with on the East Coast, said Krump, who is African American. Still, with so many shootings in recent years of young, black men by police officers, she fears her biracial sons, aged 7, 9 and 11, could one day be a target.

I understand a bit of what it takes to leave ones home, to recognize an extreme threat and take action,to make a life in New place. No place is perfect, many are better than others, and US government is a hate filled, ineffective, compromised laughingstock.

Where to go? Ive thought about it, as many Americans have. When 45 was elected my fight or flight response kicked in big time. I was raised in the NE, living in the south but considering my next move. staying in the USA will be hard, even if i move to a blue area; moving to Canada or Mexico are also considerations.

As a Jew, my family on both sides left Europe many years before the holocaust, just before and after the turn of the century(1900), when there were many pogroms. They came from Latvia and Romania, to Canada;and from Russia and Poland to the USA. My mom left Canada as a single woman in the late 1950's, came to the USA as a nurse, met and married my dad. I always thought she was brave, and she wasn't fleeing persecution or potential racism.

If i had biracial sons, as this woman does, and a dream of.living in another country, I'd summon up my courage and do it now.
Since I have only myself and my country to worry about, I've taken on a mission. My mission is here in the USA, fighting with my fellow patriots for liberty and justice for all. Hopefully we can return our country to the correct, humane, path it was on, and enough of us will stay to make it happen.
