How Bernie Sanders is cultivating California for 2020

Bernie Sanders can’t get enough of California.

Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont, barnstormed the Golden State ahead of the June 2016 primary like no presidential candidate in recent memory. The front-runner in the party’s nascent 2020 field has returned regularly to campaign for a drug price initiative and to urge support for a universal health care bill similar to one he’s proposed in Washington. His next public event comes Friday in San Francisco at the invitation of the nurses union, among his most vocal supporters.

Sanders’ persistent appearances in the nation’s most populous state – a deep-blue bastion whose leaders bill it as the crucible of the resistance to President Donald Trump – underscores California’s possible significance in the party’s upcoming presidential winnowing process that begins with Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

While California has long served as the largest watering hole for Democrats in search of campaign contributions, the increasing possibility that its primary will be moved up to March from June, combined with a new generation of homegrown potential contenders such as U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, further raise its significance for Sanders.

“California could be outcome-determinant in 2020,” said Darry Sragow, a veteran Democratic strategist and publisher of the California Target Book, a data-driven compendium on elections. “If you are thinking about running for president, you should operate on the strong assumption that what happens here is going to matter a whole lot.”

You can't and won't ask any questions about the candidates? If Obama were to "pick" his successor, you would just choose that person without thought? Is that the way you see democracy? We just pick whoever the last gut picks? And what does Jane Sanders have to do with anything? And why do you think Obama is going to "pick" someone for us? And why would he pick Patrick?

Go to politifact.com or factcheck.org.

He released summary pages only, not full tax returns. He evaded and became defensive when asked to come up with full tax returns.

Last I heard he filed for another extension.

Of course, I mean full tax returns, like HRC has every year, not summaries like Donald Trump.

Seriously - where did you hear he released his returns?

He's said multiple times before that he has no interest in running as a spoiler. He has repeatedly said he would never run as an independent. He has spoken out against what Ralph Nader did in 2000. So of course not. As far will the party let him run, why wouldn't they? It would be incredibly stupid to somehow keep him from running and piss off the young/progressive base like that.

though I dont think he'd run Independent or Green Party, outta spite - that would be disastrous! - it would still be a risky move to reject him.

While I wouldn't be too pleased, it certainly wouldn't stop me from supporting the Democratic candidate, as I feel it's my solemn duty to do so, if we have any chance to dethrone the Nazi King... unfortunately, not everyone will be on the same page and that's the risk we take.

and numbers from NPR, if voters for BS, in Mich. Wisc. and Penn. who switched their GE votes from the Party's GE candidate, HRC, to the idiot we now have as potus, she would have had 278 electoral votes...more than enough to have beaten the current clown we have as a potus. The BS wing of the Democratic Party must be made to realize, it is just that, a minority wing, with a minor leader, under the umbrella of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

With him as a possible in 2020, why would I want the same outcome as Nov.8 2016? We have a rising and upcoming cadre of true Democrats who will show that our power and victories are in the future, not dependent on anyone from the past, except as possible advisors.
