Catholic Nun Explains Pro-Life In A Way That Will Stun Many (Especially Republican Lawmakers)
'In one simple quote, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. sums up the hypocrisy of many in the 'pro-life' movement:
"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is." This quote applies well to many Republican lawmakers who continue to introduce/pass restrictive misogynist laws against woman's reproductive rights. At the same time, the GOP works to shut down women's health clinics, with a special vengeance towards Planned Parenthood (#StandWithPP). You don't see these Right Wing anti-choice extremists adopting children from unplanned pregnancies or putting funds into sex education. But you do see Republican lawmakers cut access to birth control, which prevents abortions. You do see the GOP's 54 attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and their $24 billion Government Shutdown, both to destroy universal health reform which protects the needs of millions of American children. And you do see Republican lawmakers cut government programs like school lunches for children and block government financial aid to families who are homeless and/or in need. The goals of these so-called anti-choice/'pro-life' hypocrites are not about fetuses or children once born, their agenda is about controlling women's bodies and women's futures. How great to hear Sister Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun, define the pro-life/anti-choice GOP double talk so well.'>>> https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/07/30/1407166/-Catholic-Nun-Explains-Pro-Life-In-A-Way-That-May-Stun-The-Masses?detail=emailclassic

1. I am pleased, and a little bit surprised, to hear her views. She is right on!
The R's are pro-BIRTH. Control is high on their list too.
They are all hypocrites. |

13. That was when she was rather vocal on the Iraq War.
She simply understands the Message of Our Lord as described in Matthew 25: 35-45.
That's the "when I was hungry, you fed me..." one. The "whatever you do to the least of these, you do to Me" one. The bedrock, the fundamental, the cornerstone of Christianity as I learned it in Catholic school. |

19. The Rs are pro-FORCED BIRTH.
If they really cared about the actual birth, they would want money to go to pre-natal care and for infertility coverage.
No, what they want is to force women who have unwanted pregnancies to be FORCED to give birth against their will. |

3. Benedictine nuns tend to be more liberal than most other orders.
I was educated by them and know the order quite well.

6. She is expressing the views of the Catholic Church as a whole, which has always
stood up for the poor and oppressed. If you were raised Catholic, surely you know that.

8. I am amazed
At how many Catholics do not share that view.
I had a liberal Catholic education. Go to churchmilitant.com They are nasty, conservative catholics. Not a shred of human decency in their outlook. |

could be an Ayn Rand fan.

7. Fundies call themselves Pro-Life, but what they really are
... is Anti-Choice. They think abortion is wrong for them, and they've decided that nobody else gets to make the choice about abortion or parenthood.
So this nun GETS it! The choice to be a parent goes hand-in-hand with the financial responsibility of providing for that child. People need to make their own decision, it cannot be dictated by a religious or governmetal body. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

10. "sex education"
"Abstinence only" and reduced access to birth control will result in more unwanted pregnancies.
And more abortions, regardless of state laws. This issue is, first and foremost, a means by which the malefactors of great wealth manipulate the gullible into voting against their own interests. The oligarchy doesn't care a whit if pregnancies are terminated among the peasantry. The money changers in the temple are motivated to increase their own status and power. |

14. Pro-life is a myth.
Pro-life is a myth.
The supposed pro-lifers cared not when the state of Texas (republican gov) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state. It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers. It is a matter of control. |
