The day Father Coughlin died.
October 27th 1979, one of the biggest racists died. Something else happened on that day. Read all about it by clicking on this link https://stephenjaymorrisblog.tumblr.com/
Until I learn how to post photos and graphics, I wouldn't be posting it here
Thank you.

(41,118 posts)4. Rise of Father Couglin in the 1930s age of radio.
Father Coughlin, Grandfather of hate talk radio & televangelism in 1930s Detroit, Michigan.
Father Charles Coughlin hosted a weekly radio broadcast in the 1930s with a national following of tens of thousands of people. Since the 1920s, new radio technology with vast powers of mass communication enabled broadcasting of music programs, sporting events and propagandist speakers like Coughlin into millions of American homes and public places.
Coughlin's rise was also simultaneous with the period of major economic and social upheaval- the Great Depression when millions of Americans were jobless, homeless or living in 'Hooverville' shanties.
Popular "Radio Priest" Father Coughlin promoted pro fascist, anti Semitic, anti democratic, isolationist and conspiracy views throughout the country for years. He was so toxic and dangerous that when war broke out in Europe in 1939, it took the Vatican, FDR's govt. and Joe Kennedy Sr. to finally bring down the hate monger radio demagogue.

Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda for Hitler also utilized the power of radio, movies, magazines and news papers to dictate and control public 'information' during the Nazi regime in the 1930s and 1940s.
The US Fairness Doctrine of 1949 calling for balanced media was enacted just after WWII when the powerful effects and influence of mass propaganda were clear. In the 1980s during Reagan's administration the Doctrine was repealed.
