Jefferson County School Board member Donna Pike is under fire for what a local activist is calling racist social media posts.
Pike denies the claim.
At Tuesday's board meeting, Birmingham activist Carlos Chaverst called Pike, a Republican from Irondale, out for a post she shared on Facebook on June 1 with an image of former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett but with the words "No! I'm not black! I'm Valerie Varret (sic) and I'm a Muslim, born in Iran!"
Chaverst showed a packed conference room images of not only that post, but others showing Pike supported Roseanne Barr, whose show was recently canceled by ABC after Barr referred to Jarrett as an "ape" on Twitter.

(35,317 posts)Those things are decided by the state, not a local school board.
After that it's almost always some instructional officer who helps produce a scope and sequence outlining the order the topics will be presented in and the time allotted for each topic, which automatically dictates depth. IOs are usually responsible for local standardized tests. I've never even heard of a school board worrying about the details of what's happening in the classroom, and most school administrators would grit their teeth and pretty much ignore that kind of meddling.
