Krugman: Why Pelosi is so demonized

Raw Story quoting Krugman in NYT:

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/08/paul-krugman-reveals-republicans-obsessed-demonizing-nancy-pelosi/

Despite all the attacks on her, Krugman argues that Pelosi is a historically successful speaker of the House. Under her leadership, Democrats blocked President George W. Bush’s efforts to privatize Social Security; she was a key reason the Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare, passed; she guided major financial reforms through the chamber; and she helped make the 2009 stimulus bill a reality, which staved off some of the worst effects of the Great Recession.

“It’s quite a record,” Krugman wrote. “Oh, and whenever you hear Republicans claim that Pelosi is some kind of wild-eyed leftist, ask yourself, what’s so radical about protecting retirement income, expanding health care and reining in runaway bankers?”

They are running against Nancy Pelosi, in order to divide Democrats (it worked with Hillary), and Maxine Waters, in order to excite their racist base.

Racist, sexist, anti-gay... Republican bigots go away.

It might work with some of the racist base, but not all. I know this is hard to believe, but not all of the racist base even know who Pelosi is. But the right wing that educates the base is too late. Starting now with Pelosi won't work. It won't work because it is too late in the season to educate these stupid 'base believers"..many do not know who the leader of the Democrats in Congress is, what that leader does or why that is important...

Now Hillary had been in the news a very long time. Investigations, Sec of State, Wife of President Clinton, newsperson, etc...I don't think Nancy is as well known as Hillary, or that people could possibly care enough to take her on.. The base was taught about Hillary over a long period of time..not enough time to teach the idiot base about Nancy...And Nancy has done a lot of good things which are carved in stone and history. I don't think this will work.

Even Obama gives Nancy due credit for passage of ACA and all the other bills passed while he was POTUS and she was Speaker.

Compare her successes to the GOPers' performance while holding both chambers and the White House: They've gotten next to NOTHING accomplished.

Republicans fear her, they envy her, and they hate her. All reasons we should keep her.

...can so easily slip into mainstream discourse as "reality." As in "it seems there's a lot of anti-Pelosi sentiment out there – and it's shared by many Democrats."

The Republican gas lighting is so unrelenting, and the way it filters – often untraceable – into the web, we are forced to change our media consumption habits as Democrats to avoid being divided.

To wit: we must all begin to question our own assumptions. We must start to make a habit of checking sources and fact-checking.

Ironically, the sexy new medium of the internet, the big time-saving, tree-saving technology, requires that we work twice as hard to get real news.

If we want the lightbulb, we must force ourselves to turn off the lights and go to sleep. If we want the internet we must all become skilled editors. (And our schools must make media and journalism a required course of study).

If there were no Nancy Pelosi, the Republican's would just find someone else to demonize.
