Damn the consequences, House Democrats must impeach

Impeachment. There’s a political argument, to the “no” side of which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems committed; and there’s a constitutional argument, for which the rational position is “yes.” It’s a monumental call.

Were the House of Representatives to embark upon preparing a case, there’d be one of those storms the prefix of which was shared by President Trump in his characterization of certain African countries. His tweet-thumbs would burst into arthritic flame, Fox “news” anchors’ rage would deoxygenate the entire troposphere, and melting TV screens in Trump-country would leak pixels like lava.

If inquiries revealed murdered prostitutes and rubles by the millions in a Lincoln bedroom closet, the Senate would still acquit, McConnell’s grin would reflect eating the afore-hinted substance, and Fox’s Three Dolts on a Divan would praise Trump’s housekeeping skills.

But there are times that demand principled bravery. Hills on which to die. If they don’t include trying to save our constitutional republic, nothing does. That impeachment of Donald J. Trump, serial liar, perjurer (in writing!), ongoing obstructer of justice, who comforts our enemies and threatens our friends, who calls treasonous (which requires putting to death) the constitutionally empowered investigators of possible crimes by him, his campaign, and his administration; demands his underlings ignore legal subpoenas from a co-equal branch of government; calls for jailing political opponents; hires a sycophantic, dishonest attorney general; undermines the mainstays of our democracy: voting, press freedom and education; sabotages separation of powers the way any tin-pot dictator would; is prone to petulant rages leading to hair-trigger “policy” given less than a millisecond’s thought, likely to be reversed hours later; that these offenses cry out for impeachment is understood by all who consider the Constitution a still-relevant document, intended to protect us all.

All of the criminals will be forced to testify in hearings that will build the case toward impeachment. Building the case is the MOST IMPORTANT next phase. Actual impeachment can wait.

I'm for impeaching him only when it will get him out of office. That means next year while he has to run for re-election. That will also give us time to get all his crimes out in the open.

Instead of charging him with conspiring with a hostile foreign government and obstruction of justice, do those two things plus money laundering, bank fraud, insurance fraud, violations of the imoluments clause, and anything else that pops up between now and then. Impeach him, but do it right. We can't have four more years of babies in cages.

Does that mean only if the Republican majority Senate will convict?

Without a smoking gun of unmistakable treason, that is highly unlikely.

Do you mean that impeachment by the House (even though the Senate acquits) will help defeat Trump in the 2020 election?

If a strong enough case is made, Republicans who backed this POtuS could also pay a price at the polls.

Ultimately, the question to ask is whether or not Trump has committed high crimes and misdemeanors which clearly meet the Constitutional intent of impeachment.

If so, failure to pursue impeachment is both a dereliction of duty and tacit acceptance of criminal behavior at the highest level of our government.

but the decision is an easy one! Would we allow the Manson family judge Charles Manson? The GOP Senate have been Trump's lackeys, followers, enablers, and fellow crime mates through every dark, sinister crime this Satanic Oaf has committed! These are the very people who killed Sharon Tate in the latest American mass murder story!

It is vital to our moral recovery that we continue to investigate, expose, and ride Trump bareback until he has enough rope to catch his nutsack in a slip-knot! POP! Won't that be fun to watch?

Putin is just laughing his head off.

None of tRump’s base is even hearing about his crimes. They are in their own little news world.

Electoral college is still in place.

Florida still has fucked up voting equipment and the GOP legislators won’t fix it.

Republicans won’t grow a pair.

We could have 2020 all over again.
