Franklin Graham has played his ultimate Trump card
Excerpt: In their day of prayer, Graham and other Trump evangelicals have used a sacred spiritual practice for profane purposes. They have subordinated religion to politics. They have elevated Trump as a symbol of divine purposes. And they are using Christian theology as a cover for their partisanship.
So: This is blasphemy, in service to ideology, leading to idolatry, justified by heresy. All in a Sundays work.

(3,463 posts)Somehow, Trump has become the darling of the evangelical right. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Trump is completely amoral, never goes to church, has never talked about his "faith" in a speech that I know of, is greedy, lecherous, and foul-mouthed. He paid off porn stars. He was involved with casinos. Nothing that he does exemplifies the love of Jesus. Why are they so blind to it? That is the one thing that I will NEVER understand.
Of course, a similar thing happened with St. Reagan. I remember reading an article back in the 80s that posed the same kind of question. Reagan, who was a Californian, an actor, and a former Democrat, was a divorced man who never went to church, yet the Moral Majority types like Falwell embraced him with the same fervor as they've embraced Trump. I can't understand it.

This gives them a feeling of self-rightousness so that is all they need.

(3,463 posts)The irony of that, of course, is that Trump doesn't give a shit about abortion. If one of his wives, mistresses, or whores needed one, he wouldn't think twice about making the arrangements.

People who want a strong wrathful God to rule their lives want a strong vengeful leader to rule their society.
