As he kept firing serious people and replacing them with clowns, I knew it was going to get worse. Not because he was worse. But because there was nobody around to run interference for him or talk him out of stupid things.

The underlying story of the Mueller report was that he was a loose cannon that was often managed by simply ignoring him.
