Vox.com- It's not what Trump did; it's what Republicans accept

In podcast, Ezra Klein talks with Thomas Mann (and Andrew Prokop) about impeachment hearings and Republican spinelessness/
https://www.vox.com/podcasts/2019/11/23/20979123/thomas-mann-exra-klein-impeachment-explained-republican-party-polarization

From the written introduction:

The core question this impeachment process is raising isn’t “what did Donald Trump do?” The hearings have filled in important details and added confirming witness, but the story is largely the one we’ve known since the White House released the call record.
Instead, the core question the hearings are raising is: “What will Republicans accept and defend?” The answer, at least judging by the arguments of Reps. Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan, is chilling.
. . .
I’ve heard from listeners who enjoy this podcast, but wish it could be more “balanced.” I wish it could be more balanced too. But to pretend that an imbalanced system is balanced is a poisonous form of bias. This episode is about seeing what’s right in front of our eyes, and taking seriously what it means for our future.

Either some Russian mobster pays them directly, the NRA funnels it to them, Trump gets mobsters to pay them or some filthy rich American slaps them with bundles of cash.

They are well paid, very well paid, to destroy this democracy. It is the goal of the payers. They will do what it takes to make the US an oligarchy much like Russia. Then the filthy rich can drop the pretense.

what the republicans have been doing since F.D. Roosevelt.

Back when they and their corporate masters secretly supported
the Nazi Party in Germany. That was just the beginning or rebirth
if you will, of Fascism.

Since then, everything that could be done to destroy the very
foundations of democracy has been assailed by the application
of unrelenting pressure and overwhelming amounts of money.

All laws developed to control the flow of dark money, weapons on
the street and political control of our government have been
subverted or watered down to point of ineffectiveness we are
now realizing.

Is it too late? That depends on whether we can stand up to
as one and wrestle back control of the means and direction
of America.

The criminals will not relinquish their illegitimate status absent
an all-out fight. State to state, street to street and house to house
if need be.
