Maureen Dowd biting the dog
She gets it right:

I feel like I have spent my career watching the same depressing dynamic that unspooled Friday night: Democrats trying, sometimes ineptly, to play fair and Republicans ruthlessly trying to win, Dowd wrote. I watched it with the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings. I watched it in the 2000 recount with Bush versus Gore. I watched it with the push by W., Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld to go to war in Iraq. I watched it with the pantomime of Merrick Garland.
Democrats are warning Republicans that they will be judged harshly by history. But in the meantime, the triumphant Republicans get to make history. And a lot of the history that Republicans have made is frightening: the endless, futile wars, the obliviousness to climate change, the stamp on the judiciary, she explained. As with so many other pivotal moments in modern history, Republicans wanted to win, not look for the truth. And history, God help us, is written by the winners.
Apologies if duplication, couldn't find in DU search.

(6,973 posts)She's blaming the Democrats for not winning, while she sits on her ass and hurls veiled insults at them from her desk at The Times.
You know who else made history? Hitler.
But so did FDR, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, LBJ, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton, to name but a few.
Dowd's paper is very much part of why we have trump. She has always ripped on Hillary Clinton. Maureen can suck on that trumpsicle.

(6,448 posts)Maybe we wasted our childhoods watching Dudley Dooright while the Reptilian Party was rooting for Boris and Natasha. Those bastards slithered into church every Sunday and we're the ones with the morals and actual patriotism.

(28,246 posts)All of you Play By The Rules Democrats need to wake up or just get out of the way. Your Goody Two Shoes approach has put us where we are, now. We need to be down in the gutters with the Republicans, kicking their asses. It may be too late, at this point.

(81,432 posts)When Hillary first ran against Barack Obama, Dowd wrote of how pathetic it was that she has to wage a major offensive to make herself appear warm-blooded, and commentary this year includes the sour gem: After running as a man last time around, Hillary Clinton is now running as a woman. Since she has a book out The Year of Voting Dangerously, a collection of writings on the seasons political insanity Dowd popped up on talk shows last weekend; arch, brittle and fairly twitching with the strain of being caught between Clinton and a hard place. It was a small, thrilling piece of drama alongside the frankly exhausting spectacle of the main event.

(8 posts)I have not always agreed with Mo Dowd but she is dead on correct in this article. I can't understand why Democrats keep playing this game with these cheats and liars. They should be calling it out at every opportunity. We should have marched on Washington when McConnell decided to refuse a hearing to Obama's supreme court pick.
