Romney explained impeachment vote in note to colleagues

https://www.axios.com/mitt-romney-trump-impeachment-vote-note-c09e8704-0196-41e9-8d7a-5d640f06c7f7.html

A photo of the letter provided to Axios. The letter has sections covered to conceal identifying info.

Mitt Romney explained his vote to convict President Trump in a note to his Republican colleagues, hand-signed “Mitt” in blue ink and delivered Wednesday to their individual boxes in the Senate cloakroom.

Why it matters: The Utah senator and 2012 presidential nominee was the only Republican to go against Trump during impeachment. His notes reflect how much pressure he'll be under to justify himself to a party that's pledged loyalty ahead of Trump's re-election bid.

Donald Trump Jr. has called for Romney's expulsion from the party and Romney's niece, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, has publicly criticized him.

Romney, who once contemplated serving as Trump's secretary of state, has knowingly set himself up for extended backlash with his vote.

It's not so hard to get, really, when you come to accept that religiosity and any-number-of-positive-qualities are not synonymous.

I just cannot understand how any true, say, Christian, could support a party that treats immigrants like trash.

Maybe he can pick up some Trump/Russian properties dirt cheap. If not Mitt some associates investors. I wonder what infested motels and golf courses go for these days? They will need to be scrubbed of vermin and spies.

The other Republicans with a conscience did not - really weak of Collins, Alexander, Rubio and Murkowski to basically say he was guilty, but they were burying their hands in the sand with their fellow Republics

Honoring his oath to office , and his word, while trump will attack him for being honest , and not protecting his corrupt and criminal ways. Those that refused to convict are going to look very , very bad when its all exposed, while Romney will be respected and looked upon forever as being on the right side of the American people, and a man who could be trusted , unlike trump and the rest of the GOP now. Romney also said his belief in God was a part of this too, putting light onto trump and the GOP who don't believe their religious beliefs, not voting for corrupt criminals to go free after having all the evidence needed to convict him with. They will be forever judged after this, and it won't be good for them anywhere they go now. Many will regret their vote very soon.

This rings up "No Sale" with me.

It was a safe vote, he isn't up for election for 4 years and he voted to acquit on the 2nd article.

This is "having our cake and eating it too."

At least his letter could make a few of his colleagues flinch. But I'm assuming that any one of them would have a conscience which these days is a huge leap.
