Recent LTE in my local paper: Despite Trump's State of Union speech, nation on wrong track

I did not watch the president’s State of the Union address, as all he would talk about was how “great” he has made America, even as I see his true self in the daily news and in his tweets when he constantly is calling citizens down if they don’t agree with his actions.

How can the economy be “great” if major stores have closed shop or are in the process of closing, such as Sears, J.C. Penney’s, Payless Shoes and Macy’s? These businesses have had to lay off thousands of workers. The prices for houses, rentals, food and clothing have risen so that millions of Americans are going homeless and are going into debt and have to live paycheck to paycheck to not even getting a paycheck. I don’t call this great, and it is making the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

How can elected Republicans support the president’s actions on important issues that involve America’s future?

I wish more citizens, especially the elected officials would read the last chapter of the Bible as it cites the end of the world and specifically cites bad actions of world leaders as well as enormous fires that will end our world. Climate changes start fires in America and Australia. This looks like the start of our world ending.
