From now on, Pelosi is playing hardball
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made clear in an interview on Wednesday that she doesnt intend to let Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell play a hypocritical, shift-the-goal-posts game on the next rescue-and-recovery bill.
And despite McConnells backsliding, she insisted that such a bill will become law, partly because it will be in President Trumps interest to get it done.
Making a commitment many progressives have been seeking, Pelosi (D-Calif.) pledged to set the terms in the next round of negotiations by having the next bill originate with her House Democratic majority. Her members would thus not be left in a take-it-or-leave-it position on a product largely worked out in the Senate.
Well pass it in the House, she said. If [the Senate wants] to pass their own bill, well go to conference. If they want to make some contribution that might be an improvement and something we can all agree on, well go to the table.

(673 posts)I think Pelosi should have insisted on the additional funding when she had all the leverage. Promising to use her leverage in a future bill, which may be rejected by republicans, removes the tremendous leverage she had with the present bill. (Since the House has not yet passed the present bill, and based on the turtles latest statements, Pelosi still has the option to demand inclusion of what she and democrats want).

That move made ZERO sense and Im guessing McConnell baited her into it with another promise he wouldnt keep.
Why couldnt she play hardball this time around?

(23 posts)On Earth Day, it seems fair to question where the Democrats are demanding that this "infrastructure" money go to building the green economy we'll need to save the planet -- why not create the jobs that way?
