Trump dismantles environmental protections under cover of coronavirus

Nice long Op-Ed in the Guardian, excerpts below. (no paywall, but I support them)

My emphasis, not in the article. Pisses me off that this assclown can't abide any treaty that our government has forged with others. The UN agreed that there would be no mining on the moon and that was 1979!

The Trump administration is diligently weakening US environment protections even amid a global pandemic, continuing its rollback as the November election approaches.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, US federal agencies have eased fuel-efficiency standards for new cars; frozen rules for soot air pollution; proposed to drop review requirements for liquefied natural gas terminals; continued to lease public property to oil and gas companies; sought to speed up permitting for offshore fish farms; and advanced a proposal on mercury pollution from power plants that could make it easier for the government to conclude regulations are too costly to justify their benefits.

The government has also relaxed reporting rules for polluters during the pandemic.

Trump’s ambitions reach even to the moon, which he has announced he wants the US to mine.

This douche has got to go.

3. Yes, he's rushing all this in fear he will lose the election, big time! Yet, two things here are....

important:

1.) most of these moves will not result in many additional votes counts as these are long-term corporation-beneficial acts. Sure, a few will have almost immediate impact on some Americans, but not many and few vote pickups.

2.) more to the point, with the House shut down and the Senate not voting on anything save RW judges, Trumpy has to, as usual, resort to Executive Orders ot effect these changes. Many will be protested in court, limiting many to long and protracted squabbling, a good thing for us. Since he cannot even remotely deal with Congress on actual laws (this takes real leadership and compromise) his E.O.'s can and will be easily reversed by newly elected President Biden. Game-set-match!

Oddly, although I'm sure Trumpelstiltskin's has be warned of this numerous times, he's such a numb skull it's never sunk in that all of his efforts to undo Obamacare, EPA rules and the like will ultimately fail as they are not actual laws codified by the House and Senate and then sent to him for his approval or veto.

Dumb is as dumb does, I guess!
