"Parents Need to Go to Work" Does Not Stop COVID at the School Door

"In other words, it is completely unrealistic to expect schools to open and to stay open without interruption in 2020-21. What is realistic is that schools may open and may have to close if they cannot function due teacher, admin, and staff shortages from their contracting COVID, or if the threat of such contracting is deemed imminent and schools are shuttered proactively, or even if too many adults are exposed to a person with COVID and therefore must quarantine for a couple of weeks per instance. Think about that. It is possible that a student in my room contracts COVID. One student. Let’s say that student has been in contact with at least one classroom of 10 students (small, I know, but stay with me) and rides a bus with 20 other students (and with a bus driver) and has class with six teachers per day. So, right there, we have at least 37 individuals needing to be quarantined– six of whom are responsible for instruction.

Furthermore, if a teacher contracts COVID, then all of that teacher’s students (and likely some colleagues) must be quarantined in order to curtail a super-spreader situation. Add to all of that the possiblity for a teacher or student returning from quarantine to be exposed yet again and to have to head right back into quarantine.

We haven’t even touched on what happens if the entire admin and office staff of a school are exposed and the heart of school operations must be quarantined."

Seems those with school kids are sick all winter. Shut them down and the parents will get back to sooner.

sister, a hardy and hard-headed but smart and strong teacher has had a jillion colds and flu from the kids. But she loves the work, even though after years it's caught up to her in terms of health.

It's not that hard a decision. You don't sit 20 kids in a classroom infecting everybody and maybe killing the teachers until there is no more virus. Being in lockdown for 6 months didn't make the virus go away we're still waiting on the vaccine

He is already helping coach the football team. He told us the school is considering three options for opening. Open on line for 6 weeks to assess situation. Open with students staying in a classroom all day. With teachers moving from room to room so as not to have kids moving from room to room. The last option was split classes 50% go Monday and Tuesday while the other 50% follow online. Close Wednesday to sanitize the room. Then the 50% switch with the Monday Tuesday kids going online for Thursday Friday. He asked how many lesson plans am I gonna have to have?

Also like the idea of moving football to spring, if things are way better by then.
We are still learning about this flu.

Students who have been exposed to COVID-19 goes home to their family. Family members, i.e. parents go to work . .. .

Siblings go to school, i.e. pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school, junior college, college.

Parents go to the store . . .

And thus, infections never end, and strong possible that many may not survive.

This administration is heartless and only care about power and how much money they can steal.

Withdrawing from WHO proves that these people are insane.

That we're going to be willing to spend the money to make the schools anywhere remotely safe for students, teachers, and staff?

Some drive several routes. That’s why start times are staggered so one bus can do a run for different grade levels. Each kid off the bus to different class rooms. There’s no way to make that work. They can’t get the kids to stay in their seats how are they going to keep masks on them.

They are completely banking on having a super-majority of asymptomatic exposures. That is the only thing that is clear now...later on, when people start receiving treatments that work but cost in the Thousands of $$$'s, follow the money and you'll find the true villains in this sordid tale.

I guaran-fucking-tee you that there is cash being funneled to Trump, McConnell, Barr and the rest of the scumbags in one way or another...

And as for teachers, we all know that's just 'women's work' and in terms of worth, not so much.

Yet Scandinavian countries that have some of the top school systems in the world pay teachers the equivalent to physicians. The profession is valued and respected, as teaching once was in the U.S.
