AP FACT CHECK: Trump team's false comfort on schools, virus

Donald Trump's aides are misrepresenting the record on kids and the coronavirus as they push for schools to reopen.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday inaccurately characterized what the chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said on the matter. A day earlier, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos also was wrong in stating that the research shows there is no danger “in any way” if kids are in school.

No such conclusion has been reached.

Their comments came as Trump continued to spread falsehoods about a pandemic that is taking a disproportionate hit on the U.S. and is not under control.

1. Making such unsubstantiated claims in such a public forum should be considered a high crime...

being that many can be misled astray and this is akin to yelling FIRE! in a crowded venue...these people should be held up to a higher standard being that they are public servants and thus subject to a higher code of conduct.

rump's ignorant use of the political process to lie and distort the truth so much has destroyed any concept of safe and proper public communications by government authorities.

An independent body (independent of Congress, the states, the DOJ, and the Executive branch) should be created and totally randomly picked to serve (like 6-12 members) who would have authority over any other governmental body whose's sole purpose is to determine if and when a crime of this nature occurred (one who is serving any public office, etc.) and thus, the person(s) should be charged if lying and if found guilty, sentenced.

We must have honest and forthright communications, after all, government is supposed to be by the people and for the people, eh?
