Trump may be no good at leading America but he's really, really good at lying
Richard Wolffe
US credibility has been contorted to protect the feelings of one man-child. No wonder he finds Anthony Fauci so offensive
(Guardian UK) Its outrageous to say that Donald Trump is good at nothing.
He may be no good at leading the country through a pandemic and recession. He may be no good at healing a nation that is deeply scarred by racist power. He may be no good at diplomacy with his allies, or even recognising Americas enemies for what they are.
But he is really, really good at lying. An Olympic-standard, Guinness Book of Records fabricator of falsehoods. He regurgitates lies as rapidly and copiously as Joey Chestnut swallows hotdogs.
Trump represents the historic high-water mark for verbal cheating, which is surely the only part of his short legacy that will feature in US history exams in 2030.
According to the exhausted and exhaustive factchecking team at the Washington Post, Trumps rate of lying is shaped remarkably like the countrys exponential rise in Covid-19 cases. ................(more)

(52,219 posts)he's certainly a *prolific* liar, but that his experience hasn't made him good at it.
there is a large mass of people willing to go along with his lies. they don't necessarily "believe" his lies, they just accept that that's the story they're going to go with. in any event, for the most part, "belief" in his lies, even among his truly duped minions, is transient and can vanish the minute he changes his tune.
that says far more about his followers than about donnie.

(52,219 posts)if he qualifies as a "good" liar, it's not because any of his lies are good or believable, it's that he's turned it into a game for his followers.
sometimes i think the fact that his lies are so implausible is part of the game, part of "owning the libs". it annoys the hell out of us that he says such obvious lies and so many minions insist he's right. i guess it wouldn't be nearly as much fun for them if the lies were mild and innocuous. the fact that they're so outrageous and obviously lies is probably part of what makes it appealing for his minions to play along.
but that's something else, i think. he's not a "good liar", he's a game show host who has made a game out of going along with outrageous lies. first person to bust out laughing at how ridiculous the lie is gets voted off the island.

(36,262 posts)There's always a tweet or video of 45 contradicting himself, or saying exactly what he now denies saying. Every time. He counts on his listeners not keeping up, and his base doesn't bother.

(9,008 posts)I will gladly give him that "accolade". The fact that he has kept his office while spinning SO. MANY. LIES. is rather remarkable. I somehow think that a Democrat acting like that would be run out of town. Maybe not. People want to believe. Trump exploits the hell out of that.

(740 posts)his lies are easy to spot. His base is the only ones who buy his BS and the reason why is that like mushrooms they live in the dark and like being fed BS.
