US does not recognize Lukashenko as legitimate president of Belarus
08:48, 24.09.2020
The United States does not consider Aleksandr Lukashenko the legally elected president of Belarus, a US State Department representative told RIA Novosti.
The August 9 [presidential] election [in Belarus] was neither free nor fair. The announced results were fake and do not reflect legitimacy. The United States cannot consider Aleksandr Lukashenko as the country's legally elected leader, the State Department representative said, commenting on Lukashenko's inauguration on Wednesday.
