Rapists rape because they like raping (The Dominique Strauss Kahn example)

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/05/04/rapists-rape-because-they-like-raping-the-dominique-strauss-kahn-example

If you have been keeping track, today marks the third time in just over a year that former International Monetary Fund president Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been legally accused of rape — which does not include claims in a French book that he previous raped a maid in a Mexican hotel and 14 other women.

Strauss-Kahn, who says in his defense that the prudish press simply objects to what he terms to his “libertine” lifestyle and that the rape charges in New York were part of a vast political conspiracy, already denies raping Nafissatou Diallo and Tristane Banon and, presumably, the other 16 women who have accused him of rape.

So at what point does he stop deserving the benefit of the doubt so many were willing to accord him in the wake of Diallo’s allegations?

Statistics show that rapists are most likely white (52 percent of those reported to law enforcement in this country are); that two-thirds of rapists know their victims; that almost one-quarter are married; and that 84 percent used only physical force on their victims. Other statistics show that 72 percent of rapes go unreported; when rapes are reported, only about half of the perpetrators are ever arrested; 20 percent of those arrested never face prosecution; 40 percent of those prosecuted walk away without a felony conviction; and 30 percent of those convicted of a felony avoid jail time. In other words, 19 out of every 20 rapists walks the streets today virtually untouched by legal consequences.

Sadly, there are many here who defend DSK by using the "American Prudishness" excuse mentioned in this opinion piece.

IMO powerful men that brag about their sexual exploits should be assumed to be rapists.

"IMO powerful men that brag about their sexual exploits should be assumed to be rapists."

You may indeed find many that are Rapists, but you will also catch many people that, Arseholes though they may be, are not rapists. Gene Simmons brags about his sexual conquests, yet in all the years, not one woman has ever accused him of rape. Indeed, in the case of Rock stars in particular, the rockstar is a sort of conquest in and of himself, where the lady brags. Again, I am not denying that said people deserve a lot of names, half of which might get me tombstoned if I said them, but we do want to avoid blurring unlikeable with illegal.

Also, we need to take into account several thingd about DSK. However, let me offer this disclaimer.

In no way am I saying he is innocent
Yes, the legal process needs to happen
and yes, he is probably, at the very least, a despicable human being,
and yes, despicable human beings should have their character looked at, no matter how talented they are.

OK, that out of the way, DSK was going to wind up elected to run France. Many people on the right hated that idea, as the right is desperately trying to gain power in the EU. A true socialist running France could upset the balance struck, which is a nice way of saying that the masses would stop marching into Berlin's austerity cattle-pens.

(yes, that is a loaded image, that does not mean it does not fit)

So as sleazy as DSK was, we cannot forget the fact that there really were forces out to get him. Yes, we can slap his face for carrying on as he did; if we were to hang him though, we would have to hang Bill Clinton and Eliot Spitzer beside them, which does not help as long as the GOP, for all it's "family values" apparently has NO problem letting sex criminals keep their jobs. The same Gallows I hinted at before would also have the corpses of Newt Gingrich, as well as most of Louisiana's GOP pols, but we all know what Rachel Maddow means by "it's ok if you are a Republican ."

I myself could not care about CONSENTUAL SEX. Indeed, if we had a chance where the President was actually encouraged to be honest, we might have a better world, as said person would not have to spend millions trying to be appear to be this all american clean cut boy that, to cop a riff of Tariq Ali, "thankfully never was." However, to be blunt, even if the lady says "F**k me!" 99 times, and says "no" that 100th part, tha no is still a no, every part of which has to be understood and respected. As long as someone can play by those rules, male, female, LGBT, etc, then have fun. I look forward to a day where we could so much as have a single president, or if a couple is married, they could brag about having better sex than Gene Simmons/Madonna and it would NOT AFFECT THE POLITICAL DEBATE.

But this many women, the guy is a rapist. There are way too many obstacles put in the way of women who want to make a rape charge. Most rapes go unreported because of the way this world treats women.

Your post is laughable.

The way that the rght has used sex as a means to smash the left? That would be funny, if it was not so tragic. And you cannot compare accusations againsts a celeb (which lawyers can turn into a cash and political issue) with the typical rape case, simply put, most women will not have lawyers slobbering at the bit to make a rape charge stick, the way they would against a DSK.

But to assume things that have completely no supporting evidence based merely on statistics of peers is wrong no matter how you try to spin it.

"IMO powerful men that brag about their sexual exploits should be assumed to be rapists."

Seriously?? This is where we're headed as a society? Someone never accused of rape should be assumed to be a rapist just because they talk about sex and happen to be powerful? Should we assume that people who watch gory films are serial killers also?
