"You should be prepared for how bad it's going to get." 100,000/day-Overwhelmed hospitals nationwide

“You should be prepared for how bad it’s going to get.”

The words of Dr. William Haseltine, an internationally renowned infectious disease expert, summarized the resounding—and sobering—takeaway from several public health experts and epidemiologists who spoke to The Daily Beast on Saturday, hours after the U.S. smashed its previous record of new daily COVID-19 cases. The country hit 83,757 reported infections in one day on Friday, while hospitalizations skyrocketed across the nation by 40 percent.

The problem, experts say, isn’t Friday’s number. It’s the upward trajectory.

“It’s going to get a lot worse,” said Dr. Haseltine, who was at the heart of the U.S response to the HIV/AIDS and anthrax crises. “We’re looking at easily an excess of 100,000 infections a day and overwhelmed hospitals all over the country.”

Haseltine said that prediction was supported by several factors: The weather will only get colder, forcing people indoors. Flu season is approaching. The holidays will tempt people to gather in groups. There are no silver bullets coming. The smaller—but still devastating—peaks in the spring and the summer were largely contained to specific regions of the United States.

2. While the numbers increase in Europe

the outcomes vary between Eastern and Western European countries. I have noticed this for the past two weeks by analyzing the charts on Worldometers. Western Europe doesn't have the higher numbers of deaths that they see in Eastern Europe. I wonder if we will experience similar outcomes as different portions of the US eventually get infected for the first time. While we anticipate a rise across the US, many areas already had the virus months ago and are now preparing for another surge. Will the more urban areas not see as many deaths as they did during the first wave back in the Spring? Will hospitalizations be less in urban areas too?

Soon there will be uncontrolled transmittion in every corner of of the land.
Now is the time to shut it down again....I hate that idea but I don't see another way.

Certainly some states will have to shut down in order to preserve our hospitals from being over run.

Democrats have to be the adults and do the unpopular thing for the sake of the Country.

It's like a bad divorce where the kids spend weekends with Dad eating candy and cookies while Mom has to enforce homework and bedtimes during the week.

The only saving grace is that it looks like the "kids" will be begging for some vegetables by the time January comes around because things will get too ugly to ignore before then.

The phrase "it is always darkest, just before it goes pitch black" is going to be the case here.
