The teenager accused of killing two men during protests in Kenosha, Wis., in August used an assault rifle that a friend had bought for him, according to police records made public Friday.
Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, enlisted the friends help several months earlier because he was too young to legally buy the gun, an AR-15, himself, the records say.
Rittenhouse has been held in a juvenile facility near his home in Antioch, Ill., where he turned himself in to local police just after the shooting. On Friday, a county circuit court judge ordered him returned to Wisconsin to face multiple homicide and weapons charges.
The newly released police records contain details of Rittenhouses surrender as well as of statements he gave to police. He grew emotional in the lobby of the police station, saying he had ended a mans life, according to the records.
I shot two White kids, the records quote him as saying in the lobby.
Rittenhouse and the friend who bought him the gun, identified in the records as Dominick Black, 18, each told police they had been hired by a local business owner to provide security that night. Kenosha had seen several nights of protests in the wake of a police shooting of a Black man.

(28,462 posts)If it actually happened, of course, which it probably didn't. But I love how the article just took it on faith and didn't attempt to find out who the owner was hiring teenagers with AR-15s.

(11,296 posts)"store owner asking for support/security, protection stuff thrown around". And a lot of it is friend of a friend, FB crap -- offered up as a cover/excuse for the Poor Boys/Militia to show. Did this "store owner" really instruct 17 and 18 year olds w/ assault weapons to defend his "property?" It's not impossible (crazy sh*t, crazy people) -- but I think I'd hold off until I had some solid evidence for that.
(and wasn't Rittenhouse like blocks away from this supposed place of employment? so -- like not really "guarding the gates" or anything? looking for a little action?)

(29,322 posts)Kyle Rittenhouse cried, vomited and worried about negative social media comments after turning himself in to a far north suburban police department following the fatal shooting of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last summer, according to newly released documents.

When they spoke the conversation turned into the family discussing the negative comments about Kyle on social media, which caused Kyle to become upset, Nemec wrote. I requested Kyle to stop speaking with his sisters and (friend) as this was causing him to become upset and again made him cry. Kyle continued to talk about him being on social media and then briefly showed me from his phone a picture of him with the AR-rifle at the Kenosha riots from earlier in the evening."
