Why Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sometimes, literally, put on his father's old shoes
ALBANY - For Gov. Andrew Cuomo, it's a source of inspiration, love and motivation. Sometimes he will put on his father's old dress shoes.
Cuomo gave a detailed, emotional and revealing explanation on The Howard Stern Show of why sometimes he will slip into the shoes of the late, three-term Gov. Mario Cuomo when he's looking for inspiration during the tumultuous governing of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To the current governor, his father was his best friend, his mentor who he strived to be and who, he admitted, he still seeks affirmation even after his death on the day of Cuomo's second inauguration on Jan. 1, 2015.
"
Putting on the shoes is almost my conscious affirmative of the void," Cuomo told Stern on Monday. "In other words, Im saying, yes, I feel that void and now hes gone and I feel that void even more and Im aware of it. And Im so aware of it that when I need to fill the void, I literally put on his shoes."
