Birthday time: Biden turns 78, will be oldest U.S. president

President-elect Joe Biden turned 78 on Friday. In two months, he’ll take the reins of a politically fractured nation facing the worst public health crisis in a century, high unemployment and a reckoning on racial injustice.

As he wrestles with those issues, Biden will be attempting to accomplish another feat: demonstrate to Americans that age is but a number and he’s up to the job.

Biden will be sworn in as the oldest president in the nation’s history, displacing Ronald Reagan, who left the White House in 1989 when he was 77 years and 349 days old.

The age and health of both Biden and President Donald Trump — less than four years Biden’s junior — loomed throughout a race that was decided by a younger and more diverse electorate and at a moment when the nation is facing no shortage of issues of consequence.

...as President, and save his country he did.

Great Presidents arise because of dire crises created by their predecessors.

I expect greatness from President-elect Biden.

The country needs it because so much damage has been caused by the corrupt racist uneducated fool still, regrettably, in the White House who is trying, with his signature incompetence to keep his fat ass out of prison.

And as you know, he initially faced the very same kind of far-right, racist vitriol - complete with constant death threats and terrorist plots.

It goes without saying that most Repugs here in the U.S. were against him as well.

3. He doesn't bumble around, as Reagan did. Reagan acted worn out, slow, burned out, and stupid.

Biden is quick, perceptive, aware, a universe away from the whipper-snapper Reagan!

5. That he did. He had a lot of grandfatherly charm - but he was gone halfway around the bend at least

You'll recall, Judi, that Republicans spent most of his presidency downplaying and denying his increasingly obvious senility - until Iran-Contra.

Then it was: "Oh, he couldn't have possibly known about the Iran arms deals and the Contra drug trafficking - he's senile, don'tchaknow!"

And that, pretty much, was the GOP line during the '88 election - until...

7. Oh, yes. What a rush of horrified, disgusted memories that brings back. Wow.

It all returns, maybe at a good time, how smug all the people were in court who were part of this horrendous treachery. Some people may have imagined it was all a total anomoly. Looking back, it reminds us there has been some really devious abuse of power going on for such a long time.

With Reagan's bunch, however, it suddenly was all "in your face" wasn't it? Do you remember Ollie North instantly became a cult hero to the same element then which adores Trump? Omigod!

It's been going on a long time, hasn't it?

It just got out in the open by then. Real evil.

Here's a small clip, and it does almost triggers a gag reflex:

Yikes!

6. I'm just waiting for Repugs to start using Biden's age against him, non-stop

(never mind that Biden's in great shape - unlike the current occupant)

It'll be what Obama's Kenyan heritage was through most of his presidency: fodder for cheap GOPee shots.
