NYC Protesters Denounce Mayor
April 20, 2000



More than 2,000 protesters marched about three miles from Brooklyn to City Hall to demand Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s resignation over his handling of fatal police shootings of unarmed black men.

``Amadou Diallo! Patrick Dorismond! Malcolm Ferguson!″ shouted the mostly Haitian-American crowd. ``Giuliani must go!″

Diallo was slain by four white police officers _ they were acquitted of murder charges. Dorismond was killed outside a Manhattan bar and Ferguson was fatally shot during an undercover drug raid, all this year.

In each case, Giuliani has vociferously defended the police. He sometimes sought to shift blame for the shootings to the victims and was criticized for releasing Dorismond’s sealed juvenile criminal record.

The protesters promised to fight against Giuliani’s bid for the Senate.

WEVD, WBAI, and WWRL were the only radio stations that discussed these cases every day.

I don't know if it's true, but when Abner Louima was being anally raped by NYC cops, they were yelling "It's Giuliani Time!"

And he was yelling nasty things about then Mayor Dinkins (first black mayor) when he (Rudy) was addressing a police rally outside of City Hall
