Op-Ed: In what moral universe does Biden require a Catholic task force when Trump got a free pass

The election of the second Roman Catholic as president of the United States should be the occasion of great celebration among his coreligionists. Not all Catholics supported Joseph Biden, of course, though about half did. On Nov. 7, the head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, José Gomez, archbishop of Los Angeles, congratulated Biden and Kamala Harris, and five days later so did Pope Francis. Then last week, Gomez wasn’t so sure. On Tuesday, at the end of the national meeting of the American bishops, he declared that the president-elect’s support for abortion rights presents the church with a “difficult and complex situation.”

News reports suggest that the bishops may want to deny Biden, a lifelong Catholic, access to the sacrament of Holy Communion, much the way that conservative bishops declared John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, unwelcome at the communion rail in their dioceses. Gomez has set up a task force to consider the matter. No one is yet calling this a threat of excommunication, but that effectively is what the bishops are considering.....

Seems to me that this archbishop José Gomez and his clan are extremely hypocritical and have a lot of nerve in judging and looking down on our President-elect Joe Biden. To put it rudely, as my grandma used to say, "Joes Gomez wouldn't make a pimple on Joe Biden's rear end". I remember when these clowns came after Kerry when he was running. Who do these people think they are?

3. It's just loud mouths

A specific priest or bishop who thinks their pinion is more important than others. I read the Catholic vote went 50/50. Many other Catholics are calling out Amy Barrett for approving an execution, as her first Supreme Court action. The Catholic Church condemns the death penalty. Fr James Martin is my kind of Catholic.

4. We're a long way off but I'm hopeful that someday a person's religion will not enter into politics.

We've seen it demonstrated again and again in every denomination that professing any particular religious belief is no indication of moral character.
Every religion has its sheep and every religion has its share of shepherds who have no desire to lead their flocks into green pastures but, rather, coerce them into troubled rocky places for their own selfish gratification.

The sooner America gets over its need to embrace the dictates of hypocrites and recognize candidates who truly walk the higher moral ground, regardless of religious beliefs, the better.

6. One of the many reasons I am a "recovering Catholic".

My uncle was a Priest, I went home for a wedding and he asked me how long it had been since I had gone to confession. I told him it had been quite a while I have a lot to tell. My Mom finally told him I had left the Church, he never talked to me again after that.

But the problem is that Catholic Bishops José Gomez is a conservative zealot who undoubtedly, in mind at least, is a staunch dump supporter. I guess he has an unhealthy balance between his religion and his politics. On top of that, the guy has some serious holier than thou judgmental issues.
