How Democrats Suffered Crushing Down-Ballot Losses Across America
It's mind-boggling to me that any American newspaper would publish an election "analysis" without even mentioning the impact of over 1200 right-wing talk radio stations across the nation.

How Democrats Suffered Crushing Down-Ballot Losses Across America
In statehouse races, suburban voters disgust with President Trump failed to translate into a rebuke of other Republicans, ensuring the partys grip on partisan mapmaking.

WEXFORD, Pa. Just a few seats shy of a majority in the State House of Representatives, Democrats in Pennsylvania this year zeroed in on Republican-held suburban districts, where disdain for President Trump ran hot.
One of their prime targets was in the North Hills suburbs outside Pittsburgh, which are home to big brick houses, excellent public schools and the fastest-trending Democratic district in the state, according to Emily Skopov, the Democratic nominee for an open seat there, who gamely knocked on the doors of Republican voters in the days before Nov. 3.
She was half right. Joseph R. Biden Jr. carried Pennsylvanias House District 28, after Mr. Trump had won it by nine percentage points in 2016.
But Ms. Skopov, the founder of a nonprofit group who positioned herself as a moderate, was defeated.
Across the country, suburban voters disgust with Mr. Trump the key to Mr. Bidens election did not translate into a wide rebuke of other Republicans, as Democrats had expected after the party made significant gains in suburban areas in the 2018 midterm elections. From the top of the party down to the state level, Democratic officials are awakening to the reality that voters may have delivered a one-time verdict on Mr. Trump that does not equal ongoing support for center-left policies.
Theres a significant difference between a referendum on a clown show, which is what we had at the top of the ticket, and embracing the values of the Democratic ticket, said Nichole Remmert, Ms. Skopovs campaign manager. People bought into Joe Biden to stop the insanity in the White House. They did not suddenly become Democrats................................................................

(21,137 posts)DC to fly back home. The radio was awful. Not even a good music station. After that when we rent a car in different areas we pay extra for Sirius satellite. Between the church fire and brimstine bs, right wing radio and some sad soft rock we all went crazy and ended up driving back up to Dc without the radio on in silence.

(529 posts)Keeping the House, beating the incumbent President, and possibly flipping the Senate...wasn't a blue wave like we were hoping, but that could work. Really need those GA seats, though they both seem like difficult flips.

(3,850 posts)Democrats raised billions of dollars for the presidential and senate races, less for the congressional ones and were hit and miss with state house elections. That money needs to filter down because now, with the census figures coming in, state legislatures will still be drawing lines that create gerrymandered districts with 80% Democrat voters and spread out the rural districts to get small but effective Republican majorities. Look at the maps, people. The Pittsburgh and Philadelphia area account for just over a third of the entire population of Pennsylvania, but only 10% of the state legislators in both houses come from there. The court had to redraw their congressional districts in 2018 and it made a huge difference, doubling the number of Democrats representing the state. Democrats need to get aggressive and make sure that happens, using those court arguments to push for change.
Radio? Yep, still there. The only radio ads I heard this time around were local politicians. Radio ads are cheap and plentiful. Why didn't the DNC spend more money on those, because they sure had it to spend?

(6,974 posts)But we will still have a slim majority in the Congress, but if we hadn't have won the presidency which thuglicans/tRump tried to cheat us out of, we'd be fucked into hell, and just think of what MoscowMitch would do to this country with 4 more years of tRump and him at the helm?
Dems had a huge majority in the Congress before this last GE, and still couldn't get much of anything done. ALL of the real power lies with the Senate, and if Dems can somehow GOTV and overcome what I know will be voter-suppression cheating by thuglican tRump butt-licker Kemp, and deadly Covid-19 to tie the Senate ...... We'd get a hell of a LOT done.

(1,305 posts)That time is over. These days people rally to candidates who stand for real change. This point is obvious to apparatchiks of the right. Its time our side got the message. Stand unambiguously for Medicare for All, $15.00 minimum wage, student debt forgiveness, workers rights, etc. If you dont stand for something, what good are you? Why would anyone vote for you.
