(6,846 posts)Listening, I was struck by the breadth of cultural diversity just in her construction. For just one example, she didn't limit herself to rhyme and meter, but also made significant use of alliteration - which was the primary poetic device of the Elder Edda and other sagas.

She also skillfully employees turns of phrase such as "not to what stands between us, but what stands before us", ""Our blunders become their burdens", "while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us", and "while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe, now we assert, how could catastrophe possibly prevail over us".
