(3,845 posts)When Michael Powell was in charge of the FCC under Dubya, he tried to crack down on the mainstream media with enforcement of policy that was already on the books. It didn't work because the mainstream media follows journalistic standards and is generally pretty accurate. But a good strong far left Democrat could devastate AM talk radio and Breitbart, Newsmax and Fox in a heartbeat.

(22,511 posts)The article said the FCC can control certain broadcasters, but not others, depending upon what technology is used. Apparently, they don't have authority over cable. Well, guess what! That's just a loophole and the public on the receiving end of lies is misled no matter what the technology. To have such a policy is just about to have no policy. On such a basis, we apparently can't now do anything about Fox, but the radical radio shows should fall under FCC authority.
In an article here lately, someone said that no freedom should be so broad that it can permit the destruction of the govt entitling it, which does sound like a crazy policy... but I think it's where we are.
