Manchin 'couldn't believe' seeing Harris's West Virginia TV interview
BY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/31/21 02:43 PM EST
West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D), a key swing vote in the Senate, expressed frustration on Friday about an interview Vice President Harris gave to a TV station in the state and said the White House had not notified him beforehand.
Speaking with NBC affiliate WSAZ, the centrist Democrat said the vice president's interview was "not a way of working together" and called on the White House to help find a "bipartisan pathway forward."
I saw [the interview]. I couldnt believe it. No one called me [about it], Manchin said, according to WSAZ. Were going to try to find a bipartisan pathway forward, but we need to work together. Thats not a way of working together.
Harris had given the interview to push for the White House's coronavirus relief proposal.

(33,643 posts)Why exactly does this Senator think he deserves a 'call' whenever the VP gives an interview to the press in 'his state'?
Please, dude. Get over yourself.

(10,633 posts)he doesn't like being blindsided with pesky things like facts and figures. He also did not like the truth being out there about just how bad things are in WV because then they cannot mislead new money to come into a failing state.
But, mostly what you said. Typical white male of privilege who cannot handle anyone other than a white male of privilege in any leader capacity. I am going to enjoy the squirming of these dinosaurs over the next several years.

Is she supposed to trash the bill? Is she supposed to say, yeah it's alright, but it will be even better once Republicans weigh in?
What, exactly, is it that Manchin "can't believe?"
It's clear to me what this is...Manchin wants to be the center of gravity. He knows nothing gets passed without him, so he wants to be the gatekeeper for everything.

(80,026 posts)I do not think Manchin liked Harris broadcasting these stats.
Harris had given the interview to push for the White House's coronavirus relief proposal.
To your point, in West Virginia, 1 in 7 families is describing their household as being hungry, 1 in 6 cant pay their rent, and 1 in 4 small businesses are closing permanently or have already closed, so its a big issue in West Virginia and across the country, Harris told WSAZ. Thats why the president and I are offering the American Rescue Plan.
