No, Josh Hawley: We don't hate America if we want to learn from history's mistakes

Its not true, as Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley suggested in his fiery, America First Friday speech at the far-right Conservative Political Action Conference, that those who dont agree with him dont think we should have national borders. Or that we never stop proclaiming how terrible our country is
founded in lies and evil.
It is true, however, that its not a particular point of pride for us that America freed the slaves. Eventually.

Part of pushing back against liberals, he told the crowd, is reclaiming our history and saying it is good and we are proud to be Americans. Were proud to have come to live in a country that started with nothing and became the greatest country on the face of the Earth. Were proud to live in a country that liberated slaves.

We didnt so much start with nothing as we stole what was here before we got here from Native Americans.

(5,481 posts)Im here today, Im not going anywhere and Im not backing down, not a chance! Hawley declared, his voice rising to a defiant yell. I just want to say to those people who say to us, Oh, youre the past, your moment has passed, its over, its Joe Bidens America now, were not the past, were the future, we represent the future of this country. Were not going to back down to the woke mob, were not going to back down to the cancel culture, were not going to be told what we can say or do.
It was better when put to music and translated from the original German:

(2,636 posts)He's preaching against imaginary demons.
He's setting up straw men to knock down. He's boldly announcing he will not do what no one is actually asking him to do.
Except take responsibility for his own words and actions.
He is reason #98034752 why we need election reform. He should be governing right now. Not campaigning for an election four years from now. Never mind the whole seditious traitor thing.

(22,759 posts)and who did we free them from? seriously Hawley?
...and "a country that started with nothing"? far from nothing... the early years of the United States were rich beyond imagination... lots of immigrants with their ideas and intellect, massive amounts of natural resources, fertile soils
and our Country WAS founded with many evils and we should never forget that
