ALEC Seeks Constitutional Amendment to Block Expansion of Supreme Court
This excerpt is from near the center of the article:
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which called Barrett tremendously qualified for the Supreme Court in a letter of support to Congress, has deployed lawmakers to assist with the effort. ALEC is an ostensibly nonpartisan pay-to-play operation where legislators and corporate lobbyists meet behind closed doors to adopt model legislation on a broad range of public policy issues.
At its December 2020 States and Nation Policy Summit, ALEC board member and Indiana State Chair Sen. Jim Buck (R) introduced a model resolution calling on Congress to send to the states a constitutional amendment that simply says, The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine Justices.
Buck presented the resolution in front of lawmakers, lobbyists, and conservative nonprofits at the summits Federalism and International Relations Task Force meeting.

(22,112 posts)Americans. Obviously republicans don't think so nor does ALEC, which in my mind, when they meet behind closed doors, they're trying to hide things from the public that as taxpayers and / or American citizens, we should know what is going on. By hiding or doing things behind closed doors, what are they hiding? In short, IMHO, these groups obviously don't want the majority of Americans us to know about what they are talking about, debating about, etc., and in short, are doing us harm.
This sends me a clear signal that YES, indeed, the US Supreme Court should be expanded. By expanding the Court size, this doesn't mean that favorable decisions would be 100% one side or the other side, it is just leveling the playing field out, considering that republicans packed the Court in recent years deliberately.

(21,745 posts)Are they the same corporations who are taking the public stance of defunding GOP politicians promulgating The Big Lie?
We need to shine a light on the Dark Money machine that funds groups like the Proud Boys, that pay for Hate Radio broadcasts, that buy influencers on the internet, that prop up bigoted and misogynist politicians.
The corporate PR machines are talking unity and integrity while working to divide and destroy our society.
