If Republicans Purge Liz Cheney, They're Purging Many Voters Along With Her
"I've had it... I've lost confidence."
That's House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) talking about one of his fellow Congressional Republicans.
He wasn't speaking of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), the freshman lawmaker who spread QAnon conspiracy theories, signaled support for executing Democrats, and openly flirted with launching a racist Congressional caucus to protect "Anglo-Saxon political traditions."
Nor was McCarthy referencing Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), the hard partying Congressman under investigation for alleged sex trafficking.

(12,462 posts)the republicans are already undermining the election. They got thier fix in. Plus manchin ain't letting Biden get rid of the filibuster the son of a bitch and seneima too..thier conservadem bullshit is fucking over the country. And they need to be humiliated for the bullshit they are defending.
These two dims need to be stripped of status ,committies and publically shamed by Dems that want progress..until they get with the program and vote more democratically.
And the infrastructure, the voting rights bill ,and all need to be made law, even if republicans vote no. The rules aren't working and this is not politics as usual.
So stop acting like it's politics as usual, and fuck those republican monsters.

(36,413 posts)Even moderate repubs have been so brainwashed to hate dems, or fear socialism, I think most will still vote repub. Especially if Cheney continues to vote with the party. I have a few moderate repubs in my circle & they aren't speaking out against the crazies & they fear Biden's coming socialism, even as they cash relief checks & are grateful for vaccination.

(7,947 posts)Puzzling. McCarthy's stupid as well as venal, but you'd think he'd know enough not to make a martyr of Lynn Cheney.
Many people who were Republican before Trump (like my mother-in-law) - who gave money and volunteered and voted-- really didn't like Trump (though they felt like they had to "support" him), and are glad he's gone.
They are hoping for a return to GOP dedication to what they think is the real aim of government (cutting taxes for rich people and throttling labor)-- not more and more and more whining and pissing about trans athletes and Dr. Seuss.
I can't see my in-laws and my GOP retired attorney neighbor and the usual old-style GOPer wanting to go all in with a nasty idiot like Greene. They find her quite distasteful and, my mom-in-law said today, "Low class."

(3,839 posts)because it really is pushing a good chunk of Republican voters to the Democrats or Independents and even Libertarians in some cases. If a whole lot of Republicans run in 2022 by appealing to the Trump base, they may win a GOP primary, though that's not even a guarantee, but they're going to lose an awful lot of those marginal, general elections.
