How White America Voted in 2020
The first thing that jumps out, of course, is that sane white people in this country have nonwhite voters to thank for preventing America from already having turned into the Turd Reich. The headline number is that 58% of white America pulled the level for Trump in November while he was literally in the midst of killing nearly a million Americans with his virus denialism, and just a few months before he would try to overthrow Congress in an attempted fascist coup.

One way of interpreting that headline number is that white Americans overall are just as likely to be Republicans (58%) as are white people in Mormon Utah (59%) or Montana (58%). In other words, far from being ultraconservative, those states are representative of white America as a whole. Meanwhile, the only really liberal/progressive parts of white America, as the map above shows, are New England, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii.
Its perhaps not surprising that the most reactionary part of white America is the Deep South (Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama). But other findings behind the depressing headline number are indeed surprising. For instance, two states that are considered bastions of liberalism New York and California are only that way because of their diversity; white New Yorkers gave their native son Trump a majority of their votes (52%!) and white Californians came pretty damn close (47%). Indeed, Trump came pretty close to winning a majority of whites even in Bidens home state of Delaware (48%).

(21,646 posts)7. Very troubling where the majority white are at 2021
2020 was an even bigger gut kick in many ways more than 2016.
No excuses by then with trump
they absolutely knew what they were voting for

(51,550 posts)9. I agree. It's much more troubling.
The anti-reality psychosis among the Trumpers seems to be worsening.
