Walker Crawls into Shell after Anemic Debate Performance
http://www.politiscoop.com/us-politics/wisconsin-politics/1415-walker-crawls-into-shell-after-anemic-debate-performance.htmlMilwaukee Last night, the citizens of Wisconsin got a first-hand look at the gubernatorial candidates as they came together for their first of two head to head debates. Walker earlier in the day had tweeted that the debate should be simple, showing an air of undeserved confidence which quickly turned into outright panic, moments after the debate began.
Walker appeared to be stunned when confronted with tough questions regarding his out of state billionaire donors and travels, as well as being taken to task for releasing his own job numbers that conflict dramatically with those released by the non-partisan Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Tom Barrett made it a point to ask Gov. Scott Walker the questions that the mainstream media has failed to ask throughout the campaign, those being Why wont Scott Walker release the emails sent through the secret network that was set up in the Milwaukee County Executive office? and Why wont Scott Walker release the details of his travel across the country?
In both cases, Walker crawled into his shell like a little boy sticking his fingers in his ears screaming I cant hear you, I cant hear you! Barrett continued to question Walkers claims of a budget surplus in Wisconsin just weeks before the election. Barrett says Walker has pulled out the credit card and forced future generations to pick up a 150 million dollar tab, just in interest, with his attempt to score political points just before the election. Walker had no answers and seemed dumbfounded that not everyone bought into his attempted Boondoggle of the issues.

(71,265 posts)...was just going through the motions because he thought it was over. If WI voters saw that debate then you have to say they would not vote for Walker. Do the right thing WI.

Those on the right are claiming Walker played it safe, but in truth, thats all Walker had and when he ran out of talking points, tried to end the debate early by skipping the last question. This debate put Scott Walkers character on display for all to see that he cannot be trusted to be honest or forthcoming with the citizens, and that his loyalty is not to the state, but special interests.

(7,403 posts)Scored the debate? While it is good to hear that partisans thought it went really well it is the voters in Wisconsin that really count. By the way, I have made two contributions to the GOTV effort in Wisconsin - the latest just yesterday.

The OP makes me . Come on Wisconsin!! Send a message to America that hacks like Walker will not be tolerated in the People's government anymore.

(18,998 posts)And it is the first time I really got a look at Walker...and I have known guys like that always clean cut and strait as a arrow...goes to church every Sunday to cover what is beneath....which is an angry man
When Barrett first got to him I could see the anger on his face...though his face is always that little boy true blue.
And I think he thinks he can always win people over with his charm....and he had all the talking points down pat.
Now the question is will he...or will they see something in Barrett they like....I did.
Great news!

(166 posts)Republicans just need to get it within 5% or so. They'll steal the rest -- just like with Prosser.
Maybe someday Democrats will figure this out.

(769 posts)Tom Barrett, who I am working dilligently to elect, did an absolutely
stunning job in that debate right from the git go. He had Walker squirming and squeeking out
the same talking points from beginning to end. Barrett's questions about the
secret emails and the travel time were questions that everyone I know wants
the answers to. That debate was, I hope, a defining demonstration of the startling
difference between Barrett and Walker - good and not good. I was mighty proud of Tom Barrett and
will work even harder to get him elected on June 5.

(51,550 posts)How there could be anyone in WI who still hasn't figure out that Walker is a lying, extreme, right wing schill of the Koch brothers is beyond me. Remember his recorded phone call with the fake Koch brother? I mean, geez, how can anyone other than a teabagger vote for this guy?
I find it so utterly depressing that Walker is favored to win. It means Citizens United has in fact killed our democracy. I contributed twice to the Barrett campaign, but they were tiny donations--meaningless in the face of the Koch bankroll. And it appears people will believe anything they hear in a Superpac ad--and only remember what happened last week (last year is fuzzy ancient history). Sigh.

(399 posts)...I saw two guys tossing back and forth the same talking points for the whole hour. I guess it all comes down to whose facts you believe. When you outspend your opponent 25 to 1 and are barely ahead in the polls, it tells me that slightly more than half of those polled would have voted for Walker regardless of the money spent. It all comes down to voter turnout. The Democrats had better hit their GOTV effort HARD. This debate is not going to change anyone's mind, it will only solidify opinions already held.

That's a week from Tuesday. Tom Barrett did an outstanding job in the debate. If you have friends/family in Wisconsin and don't live there, CALL them. I got my brother in Eau Claire and a bunch of cousins in Clear Lake, Steven's Point and Amery.
KICK!
Edited for correct date to vote fercryingoutloud.
