Asked if she would ask Adam Kinzinger of Illinois to join fellow Trump critic Liz Cheney of Wyoming on the panel, Pelosi told ABCs This Week: That would be my plan.
Kinzinger said he humbly accepted the appointment.
The committee will meet this week to hear testimony from police officers who battled rioters on 6 January. The hearing will take place amid high political drama.

Re: "Pelosi puts anti-Trump Republican Kinzinger on US Capitol attack panel" 25 July 2021 online
Nothing in the article or in fact supports the suggestion that Mr. Kinzinger is "anti-Trump." A great deal, including all of the article's quotations by him, supports a conclusion that he is "pro-democracy" and "anti-insurgency."
Most Republicans are publicly in favor or efforts to overthrow the duly elected government. Kinzinger is not. It is unfair and inaccurate, not to mention lazy, to frame this issue as pro-Trump and anti-Trump. One side wants to investigate the origins of a coup attempt and uphold democracy, and the other side wants to excuse the coup attempt and continue the insurrection. Kinzinger (and Cheney) are on the former side.
Thus, the headline is both unfair and inaccurate, and frames the issue as if both sides were equally legitimate in a democratic government.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

(810 posts)And that is, imo, a good thing. No one should approve of what happened on 1/6, regardless of party. If you think 1/6 is okay then you are a bad American and a bad person. Period.
