Evangelical churches and denominations have been hijacked by Trumpism
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2021/10/footprints-in-manure.html
The old saying from farm country is that when you walk in manure, it sticks to your boots. The alliance between some Evangelical leaders and Trump has produced a lot of bad behavior and corruption within Evangelicalism. And while many of them either don't notice, or notice but don't want to acknowledge that their scandals and corrupt behavior looks just like Trump, and it has grown exponentially among them during the Trump years, there does not seem to be much of a will or initiative to correct course.

1. They weren't hijacked
That's where the plane they got on goes. It did the same thing in Germany. They tend not to think too deeply in to the fact that Germany was the birthplace of the Reformation and the most evangelical country there was prior to WWII. Evangelicals love that shit. |

2. Evangelical churches were hijacked by Reagan, long before Trump
They equate prosperity with God's chosen few, or some such drivel.
Been going on since I was in high school and before. |

4. Many of them supported Reagan, but not at this level
and the idealism that existed in the churches, which are predominantly white and prosperous, was compatible with Reaganism. What's happening now is that the principles are being removed and Trumpism is taking their place. Maybe it has always been headed this way, but the depth and scope of this hijacking is at the denial level. And I don't think there would have been any recognized Evangelical leaders in the 1980's that would have endorsed or defended a January 6th event.

7. Some supported Reagan. The rest joined in
when they saw the money flowing to the first pastors.

8. No
They gave themselves to this most anti-Christian of men willingly. Whether you're a Believer or an agnostic like me, I think we can agree that these "Christians" sold their souls.

13. Some food for thought.
First, read any of the works by
Signalpress signalpress.blogspot.com (a DU member. Do you know who?) Rob Schenck https://www.revrobschenck.com Specifically, this article: https://www.revrobschenck.com/blog/2020/7/29/whats-gone-wrong-with-evangelicals-error-1 Bart Ehrman Author of many books (wikipedia) His thirty books include three college textbooks and six New York Times bestsellers: Misquoting Jesus, Jesus, Interrupted, God's Problem, Forged, How Jesus Became God, and The Triumph of Christianity. some others https://www.salon.com/2021/03/20/evangelicals-are-teaching-false-doctrine-who-says-so-jesus-christ/ Evangelicals are teaching false doctrine. Who says so? Jesus Christ I've spent my life around evangelical theology — and most of it is exactly the hypocrisy Christ warned us about Enchantments of Mammon by Eugene McCarraher People are leaving "mainstream" churches and taking their "gospel of hate" with them. Maybe those mainstream churches will be less violent and virulent. And by the way, they are tax exempt by being nonprofit. You'd have to prove that they are violating their non-profit charter (or their parishioners) Guess which is more likely. |
