Letter: If you voted for Trump, you own it

I have something to say to many of the conservative, Republican evangelicals in West Michigan, especially those who voted for Donald Trump in 2020. You now have and have had since Jan. 6, 2021, ownership of each of the following items. (Ownership means you possess them, they belong to you, and you carry responsibility for each and every one of them.)

You own the most dangerous and foolish lie in American history, that Donald Trump won the 2020 election but was denied the win because of voter fraud.

You own the most significant act of treason since the Civil War, the January attack on the Capitol.

You own the injuries and death that accompanied that treasonous insurrection as well as the damage and destruction to the nation’s Capitol.

They hate when you ask if that's one of the good things.

Even if they do, remind them the penalty for illegal border crossing isn't awful. It would be like losing your kids because of a speeding ticket.

Assh*les.

“They shouldn’t have come here in the first place and brought their kids along. They broke the law, so they are criminals and have to be treated like criminals.” or “if we’re too nice to them, it just encourages more of them to come.” I’m telling you, I’ve heard every justification. They have absolutely zero heart or compassion, even for children, if they are brown children.

If I had voted for Trump it would have been a deliberate act of treason. I feel no compulsion to tolerate or be nice to these people.
