Peter Thiel Facebook Departure, Far-Right Politics Focus, Campaign Funds Vance-OH, Blake Masters-AZ

Feb. 8, 2022, AlterNet.

Conservative technology mogul and billionaire investor Peter Thiel has announced that he is stepping down from the board for Facebook and Instagram's parent company, Meta. Thiel, who is considered one of the earliest investors in Facebook, will continue to serve in the capacity of board director until Meta's upcoming annual shareholders' meeting. At that point, he will not seek to be re-elected.

According to The Wall Street, Thiel will now be focusing his efforts on helping the Republican Party elect candidates who align with former President Donald Trump's political agenda. Speaking to Bloomberg, an insider familiar with the situation and Thiel's departure revealed which Republican candidates Thiel will be focused on helping.

“He thinks that the Republican Party can advance the Trump agenda and he wants to do what he can to support that,” a source close to Thiel told Bloomberg. “His focus will be on supporting Blake Masters, JD Vance and others who support the Trump agenda.”

In a press release following the announcement of Thiel's departure, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg applauded him for his work. “Peter has been a valuable member of our board and I’m deeply grateful for everything he has done for our company,” Zuckerberg said. “Peter is truly an original thinker who you can bring your hardest problems and get unique suggestions.” Thiel also spoke highly of Zuckerberg saying, “His talents will serve Meta well as he leads the company into a new era." -
