Op-Ed: Trump's adulation for Putin has gone way too far

I enjoy reading books about former presidents. One of my favorites is 2012’s “The Presidents Club” by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy. It’s a peek into the world’s most exclusive fraternity — U.S. presidents — and shares what members have accomplished together and why.

Take Harry Truman, a Democrat, and Herbert Hoover, a Republican. After World War II, during the Truman administration, former President Hoover helped persuade Congress to aid 22 European nations facing famine, which saved millions of lives. The effort also salvaged the idea of what it meant to be human, after the world had witnessed six years of inhumanity.

-snip-

So why is a former president of the United States rooting for Russia to be uncontained? Yes, as Russian forces surrounded Ukraine on Wednesday, preparing to invade on Thursday, Donald Trump praised the Russian president as being “pretty smart” for “taking over a country — really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people.”

And why are Republican leaders — the same folks who like to throw the word “communist” around like a poisoned dart — remaining silent about this bizarre and stunning endorsement of the Kremlin?

Once Putin embraced the Church, and "gave his life over to (White) Jesus", well, heck, it's all in God's hands after that!

Any "bad decisions" can be forgiven because he is saved.

Putin's not a Communist, like all Democrats, feminists, gays, immigrants, etc., etc., but a God-fearing man, just trying to do "God's Will".

Goldwater, despite his flaws, was quite prescient in his warning that the GOP shouldn't let the party be taken over by religious zealots. Reagan opened the flood gates, and now here we are.

Televangelism got rich off of free air-time. Now they are all ate up with their greed and lust for power.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Is she doesn’t watch the news.

It was kind of funny, because she loves America, and I asked her what are your thoughts on your former president taking Russia’s said against America and NATO? “I don’t watch the news”.

Thinking about it, I think there is an element of SHAME.

admit it. Why, all of a sudden, are they not watching now as opposed to before? Maybe because they know they hitched their cart to the wrong wagon and are burying their heads in the sand, hoping everything will return to their version of "normal" and no one will notice the massive fuck up in the GQP messaging.

Trump isn't the only one that putin owns. Don't forget McConnell who was going to get a multi-billion dollar magnesium plant from the russian owner in his state. McConnell made millions off of that deal. Think about the republicans who went to russia during the 4th of July to talk to the russians, about voting (yea right) and where were the transcripts(?) nowhere to be found. How about all the times trump met secretly with putin or Dmitry Rybolovlev. And did you forget trump tearing up the transcripts of his meeting with putin? Shall we go on, I think not.
