'Mommy They Lit Me on Fire': CT 6-Year-Old Burned in Horrific Bully Attack, Family Says
Anjali Hemphill - 1h ago
Heartbreaking photos show a 6-year-old boy from Connecticut covered in burns and bandages in the hospital, after his family said he was set on fire by a bully in a horrific attack.
Most of Dominick Krankall's body is now swollen and bandaged up after the Bridgeport boy suffered second- and third-degree burns to his face and legs on Sunday. The boy's sister, Kayla Deegan, said her brother was playing in the backyard of their home off Louisiana Avenue in the afternoon with other children who live below them.
"As soon as he walked down the stairs, the bully called his name and lured him over around the corner, and in a matter of seconds he came back around the corner screaming, saying 'Mommy, they lit me on fire,'" said Deegan.
She said that an 8-year-old neighbor got into a shed on the property, and he somehow gained access to some gasoline and lighters. That's when the boy called Deegan's little brother over.

(62,598 posts)when I was @ 3 or 4. Memories are very sketchy since I was so young.
My dad was mowing the yard, we were burning in the burn barrel. Dad left the gas can in the middle of the lawn. My mother was in the house washing dishes and watching us out the window,
My brother took the gas can and threw some on my shirt and pants and pushed me to the burn barrel. I lit up like a torch. Fortunately my mom saw me light up and was out the door and on top of me in a split second. Stop, drop and rolled on me like a football player.
Luckily I was only slightly red from the flames. Mom screamed at my brother like a banshee.
This story brought that memory flooding back.

No troubles or run-ins with the law. Pretty average middle class existence. No drugs but cigarettes and a little alcohol. We are in our 70s. He is @3.5 years older than me.
It seemed less like an act of aggression and more like an act of opportunity kind of acting out things we would see on TV. If I recall correctly, TV back in the 50s would imply a lot of violence.
right place, right circumstances and boom - kind of an act of impulse.

(38,701 posts)I really don't get where anyone ever thinks it's a good idea to throw a flaming object at anyone else. It's bad enough that the 8-year-old didn't seem to understand the danger involved to himself. Playing w/ fire????

(45,039 posts)Turns out kids were literally playing with fire, and that's how he was burned. Interestingly his family collected a large sum of money on gofundme after a supposed bullying story.
"At least three of the children (ages six, seven and eight) were observed playing with fire and gasoline."
