Republicans want to 'reform' Social Security behind closed doors -- beware!

Republican politicians are scared to death. They seek to create a smoke-filled room to provide political cover. Of what issue are they so terrified? Social Security.

Republican politicians say they support Social Security. They say they want to eliminate its projected shortfall. But do they offer a substantive proposal? Absolutely not. Instead, they hide behind process to avoid political accountability.

They want Democrats to hide with them behind closed doors. The goal is to come up with an unamendable package, supported by Democrats, that is full of benefit cuts and gives Republicans political cover to rob working families of their earned benefits. Fortunately, the Democrats will have no part of it.

Democratic policymakers are offering concrete proposals for all the world to see. They are begging their Republican colleagues to release a proposal of their own.

Scott resigned in 1997 as CEO of Columbia/HCA, one of the country’s largest hospital networks, amid a federal investigation. Later, the company he helped found was fined $1.7 billion by the Department of Justice for defrauding Medicare and other government health care programs. At the time, it was the largest health care fraud settlement in U.S. history. While the investigation’s findings covered Scott’s time at the company, he was never charged with any wrongdoing.
A good article about him…

I get paid back all of my "over" SS taxes the Reagan and Tip agreed to back in the 80s. I and my fellow Gen Xers have been overpaying SS taxes for decades to build a surplus to pay when we retire. Pay us back all that money you diverted into the general accounts (government bonds) and we'll be square. Otherwise go fornicate yourself.

We vote, and we WILL turn out. And many of us are well able to take to the streets if we have to.

The gop have no ideas of their own - they're a morally bankrupt party so they want the Dems to do the heavy lifting and then take the blame. That's a big fat frikken NO. And I'm an independent.
