95% of area planted: Ukraine spring crop

The 2022 sowing campaign completed in Ukraine

Agrarians of Ukraine have fully completed the sowing campaign. Projected crop areas under the main spring crops for the 2022 harvest in the territory controlled by Ukraine amounted to 14,163.4 thousand hectares, which is 2,752.9 thousand hectares less than last year (16,916.3 thousand hectares), according to the Ministry of Agriculture policy and food of Ukraine.

According to the operative data of the structural subdivisions of the regional state administrations, which ensure the implementation of functions on agro-industrial development as of June 16, 2022, the sowing of spring crops has been completed. In total, 95% of the projected area is sown, which is 13.4 million hectares.

According to the results of the 2022 sowing campaign, the biggest changes in the structure of crops concerned wheat, corn, sunflower and soybeans.

The area under spring wheat and soybeans remained at the level of the previous year. The area under sunseed decreased compared to last year, but insignificantly and maintained a high figure of 4 million 702 thousand hectares.

There was a reduction in corn crops: this year 4 million 639 thousand against 5 million 500 thousand hectares last year.

Thus, according to operative data, all categories of farms have sown:

spring wheat 191.1 thousand hectares;
spring barley 951.4 thousand hectares;
spring rape 34.1 thousand hectares;
oats 159.3 thousand hectares;
peas 131.0 thousand hectares;
buckwheat 75.3 thousand hectares;
millet 49.5 thousand hectares;
corn 4,639.4 thousand hectares;
sugar beets 180.6 thousand hectares;
sunseed 4,702.7 thousand hectares;
soybeans 1,212.6 thousand hectares;
potatoes 1 104.2 thousand hectares.

According to the State Statistics Service, sowing of winter crops for grain for the 2022 harvest was carried out on an area of 7.6 million hectares, including:

6.5 million hectares of winter wheat and triticale have been sown,
rye sown 109 thousand hectares,
barley sown 969 million hectares.

In addition, sowing of winter rape was carried out on an area of 1 million 414 thousand hectares.

A hectare is equivalent to about 2.5 acres.

I am amazed that the Ukrainians can keep farming and their society at large so together in the middle of Russia's war of aggression. The big question is will Pooty attempt to stop Ukraine from helping feed the world.

Blessings of good weather and harvests at maturity; perhaps they'll need new logistics getting that harvest to market? Stay strong and chase those Russians from Ukraine.

Much of the most fertile territory is *not* under Ukrainian control. Recognize agitprop *wherenever* it's presented, not just when it's the foes'.

This is thanks to Russophone non-loyalists. Many assumed that if Russia invaded the Ukrainian government/military would fold, a la 2014/15 partially under Western pressure. The folx got calls *prior* to the invasion and promised no resistance, to save lives. (Note to self: Sometimes loyalty to liberty and "saving lives" are at odds.)

I'll agree with Biden, but only 51%. If Ukraine ignored Russian pre-2/24 provocations, that was bad. If they'd *reacted* to Russian 2/24 provocations, their actions--mobilizing Ukr forces against Russians, moving them to the borders, etc.--would have looked very much like the precursor to the assault Russia putatively defended against. Catch-22. Do nothing, get caught pants down; do *anything*, and gee, you look hostile and like you're going to invade. (Again--NATO should have responded to Russian murderous and militant 'peace keepers' with *NATO* 'peace keepers." That done, Russia would have backed down. But that assumes somebody in State has an effing clue. They S-canned those people in the '90s as part of the peace dividend... enjoyed by Ukraine today.)

In any event, post-phone call Rusnya arrived, mayors yielded. More than one is now under arrest, replaced. They realized they collaborated with the enemy and dug their heels in. Some realized and decided, still, that NATO = weak and Russia = strong, or at least that their territory wouldn't report to Kyiv until Kyiv was Kiev and reported to the tsar'. (Macron's POV.) Those loyalists have kept their posts and part of me awaits the joining of their heart muscle tissue to lead.

Instead of eeyoring about how nothing is going to change, we who fight for our Democracy need to take a strong lesson from Ukraine and its people, and definitely from Zelenskyy who almost stumbled into his position as president and has been absolutely incredible!

Fight on all fronts, use all weapons, and never give up!
